“it’s a sexy beast and no mistake, with the rotating, touch-enabled screen adding even more style. Build quality is high and it looks great. It’s very easy to use with that large, touch-sensitive screen. Performance wise, it’s pretty average and you don’t have to go far before the frailties start to show. The ISO performance is poor and detail resolution for landscapes is indifferent at best. Where the camera does shine is in rendering portraits, and as it does have a very good burst mode feature, it means you can capture batches of shots of people at a time. Stick to people and macro shots and you’ll be fine, try much else and it’ll end in tears.”Source

“The NV7 OPS’ performance matches its image quality, delivering acceptable but not great speed for its class. Based on CNET Labs’ test results, it wakes up and shoots in a longish 3.1 seconds, with a respectable shutter lag of 0.5 and 1.0 second in bright and dim light, respectively. The 2 seconds it takes between consecutive single images puts it slightly behind the competition, though the 2.3 seconds it takes with flash enabled puts it ahead. Unfortunately, its continuous shooting is fixed at about 8 frames and .8fps, regardless of image size. The Samsung NV7 OPS shows a promising interface but is held back by sluggish performance and so-so photos.”

DCViews has a review of the Samsung Gx10Â and writes, “As the Samsung is in fact a rebadged Pentax model with some cosmetic changes, all older Pentax lenses with KA, KAF or KAF2 mount will fit the GX 10, which could be an important consideration in deciding which camera to go for. If however you are new to DSLR photography you will find an excellent mid-range DSLR in the Samsung. Looking at its extensive list of features it can certainly hold its own among other DSLRs today. The GX10 is built like a tank with solid well-placed buttons and dials and handy weatherproofing. It provides fast performance with excellent results and comfortable handling. (more…)

SamsungMegapixel has a review of the Samsung NV10 and writes, “The Samsung NV10 is a camera that must be tamed. It takes time to get accustomed to its interface. But once used to it, it can prove to be fast to use, and possibly faster to use than any of the other systems used on other compact cameras. Equipped with a solid group of scene modes, (more…)

Summary: Despite a great feature set for the price, pro-level customization, and excellent photo quality, we can’t think of a single reason to buy the Samsung GX-10 over its Pentax-made twin, the K10D.
Pros: Excellent photo quality; well-designed and solidly built body; premium features for its price class; nice kit lens.

Samsung is offering-up a heap of marketing spin along side their new 3.5-inch SpinPoint S166 series of hard disk drives. This time however, there’s real truth to their ballyhoo. The new series of SATA 3.0Gbps drives feature a 7,200rpm spin, 8MB buffer, and manage to damp the noise level down to a mere 24/27.5 decibels at idle/seek. (more…)

“Sometimes a little bit of noise is acceptable, especially if you can use the lowest ISO setting for noise free photos, but the NV7 features noise even when using ISO100. The “Smart Touch” interface is an interesting idea, but whilst it was designed to make using the camera easier… (more…)
